Publishing Steps

About VMC Certificates

A Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) cryptographically binds your logo to your domain and identity. It is issued by a certificate authority after trademark verification.

  • Required for the verified checkmark in Gmail and Yahoo
  • Issued by DigiCert and Entrust — typically $1,000–$2,000/year
  • Requires a registered trademark in the country of use
  • Without a VMC, some mail clients may still show your logo — but not the verified indicator
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No — a VMC is optional. Without one, your BIMI record is still valid and some mail clients (not Gmail) may display your logo. A VMC is required to show the verified checkmark indicator in Gmail, Yahoo, and other providers that require it for logo display.
Your DMARC policy must be p=quarantine or p=reject, with pct=100. A DMARC record with p=none means you're only monitoring — it doesn't enforce anything, so BIMI won't work. Use our DMARC Lookup tool to check your current policy.
SVG Tiny PS is a restricted subset of SVG. Start with your existing SVG logo, then: make the viewBox square (equal width and height), add baseProfile="tiny-ps" to the svg element, add a title element, remove any scripts, animations (except simple CSS), external image references, and filter effects. Use our BIMI Checker to validate the result.
BIMI records are published as TXT records at default._bimi.yourdomain.com — note the "default._bimi." prefix. For example, if your domain is acme.com, the record lives at default._bimi.acme.com. Some DNS providers display just the left part (default._bimi) and append the domain automatically.
After publishing your BIMI record with a valid VMC, it can take a few days to several weeks for Gmail to begin showing your logo. Gmail processes BIMI on its own schedule. DNS propagation itself takes 5 minutes to 48 hours — but Gmail's adoption of the logo is a separate step.
